Start With the Home’s History and Major Updates
Before walking through the property, learn when it was built and what has changed since. Age alone does not define condition. An older home that has received thoughtful electrical, plumbing, roof, and HVAC updates may present less risk than a newer property with neglected maintenance.
Ask the seller for records of major work, including roof replacement, furnace and air conditioner installation, electrical-panel upgrades, plumbing repairs, foundation work, window replacement, and sewer-line service.
